Google doesn't like Paid Links???

Postby rogerv2 » Fri Apr 06, 2012 12:48 am

just found this ranking on page 1 (No.2) for a profitable phrase.

http://nation.foxnews.com/chris-christi ... h-fighting

See where the Foxnews explicitly selling links by saying "Buy a link here"

We have all heard google doesn't like paid links. If so, why foxnews does not get penalized for this BS???

Lol, Fox makes google big bucks. You don't! Like everywhere, google has different rules for the rich and the poor. Guess who's going to get favored tretment. Not us!

You can put up a link that says "Advertise Here" and you shouldn't get into to much trouble. However it is google so tht could change before tomorrow.

The biggest problem is that there is no single list of rules. It's all vague guidelines so they don't have to tell you what's good - what's bad and they never tell you exactly what you did wrong. :D

Rules limit the rule makers options, guidelines give them every option available plus the emotion of fear when you unknowingly violate something that wsn't written down to begin with.

As an employer I'd rather use guidelines, as an employee I want hard and fast rules with no ambiguity.

Every business I ever started was started with no rules, just expectations of adult behavior. The more people you hire, or use in one way or another, the more you need to have rules in place. With rules their are always exceptions, with guidelines there are no exceptions because you can twist them to be what you want them to be.

Google wrote laws and them called them guidelines so they could enforce the spirit of those laws. With rules, you can't enforce the spirit of the rules, just the exact violations you made the rule against.

The difference between rules and guidelines is huge. Becasuse we are a nation of laws and rules we also got what seems like trillions of lawyers to figure out how to get around the laws. Common sense doesn't apply in laws but it does in guidelines.

Rules are what got Casey Anthony and OJ off. Guidelines probably would have convicted both of them. ;)

Guidelines are only good for the entity writing and using them. Under guidelines it's possible for a thing to be right and wrong at the same time. Sorta like Schrodinger's Cat being alive or dead at the same time. Ya just don't know til ya open the box. ;)

Very profound!

There are basically 2 ways to look at how Google gets what they want.

The general public usualy isn't exposed because all they do is search and use services.

SEOs, businesses and marketers see a different side of Google because we are trying to kiss their butt and please them.

They're like the big famous rock star and we're like the groupies saying look at me - give me - notice me!

The problem is they have so many people kissing their butts they can be rude and arrogant and mean and even do things to hurt people and we still kiss their butts.

They're not even obligated to tell us why they are mad at us or why they slapped us or kicked us out of the concert.

So they abuse this power.

It's unfortunate they handle things the way they do - but the truth is - they don't need us as much as we need them.

Yet their public persona is DO NO EVIL or whatever it is Larry Page has been preaching about Google.

They get away with it and use their power in an evil way beacuse they can and no one holds them accountable.

A lot of good people get hit in their quest to get rid of spam and purge scammers out of their little paradise.

We put up with vague guidelines and keep trying to please tehm. Even when they do mean stuff to us because they are the only search engine that has a significant amount of free traffic.

There are other ways to get traffic - but like it or not - very few businesses can afford to not get traffic for free from Google because it reperesents such a huge amount of traffic that would otherwise go to competitors. :)

Kinda reminds me the days of 'Big Blue'

especially OS/2 Warp...

Here's a shocking fact for everyone. Google has no more power over you than you choose to give it.
