Setting up Adsense

Postby aaronclancy » Sun Dec 11, 2011 3:45 pm

Couple of questions about Adsense.

1) How deep do you track? I was just going to set up URL channels. I assume you just add a new URL channel for internal pages (add the internal page URL?). Was considering custom channels for specific ad tracking but this would be a lot of work if I was to track all ad placements on all pages. What do you do?

2) I see you can make your custom channel ads 'targeting' so that advertisers can place ads specifically with your sites. Is there any other way to get Google to put better ads on your site? Have looked at a few sites where the ads are not really useful or in line with the content?

3) Is there any training in BU for adsense? More advanced strategies etc?

I create a chanell for each domain I oput Adsense on.

That way I can get an idea of what's bringing in the moolah!

sorry but other than Adsense mentioned in training there is no specific Adsense training.

Why a channel instead of a URL? Channel just lets you do specific ad groups on a page whereas a URL will only let you do it for the whole page?\\

So does that mean that you are tracking every ad group on every page?

You use the same code on the whole site for the channel you created.

I only use channels. However I do create ar least 4 adsense ads for each blog. Normally I name them after their sizes and where they are. For instance I have myblog-wideleft, myblog-largetop, myblog-largebottom and myblog-topwide. That info tells me which blog and which position is working best.

On my 3 coulumn blogs I put no adsense on the right at all. Worst ctr of all possible positions for me.

I start out with the widest on the very top, the 160x600 on the left bottom and then a large box on the bottom left of each page. Of those three the one to likely have the worst ctr will be the wide top. If that turns out to be the case I'll get rid of it and ad a large box at the top left of the page.

That's all for my pages. Posts get a different scheme because I use adsense injection plugin. I set it for the big box and left side.

You are right that it doesn't give me page info for ctr or any other stats but it does give me the info I need for each placement.

I'd much rather have the url stats but I just don't have the time to set up all of that for 30 plus blogs.
