Managing a Large volume of WP Blogs

Postby meaker12 » Tue Aug 16, 2011 12:22 pm

Hi All

Mike, or anyone with a lot of WP blogs, how do you manage all of your blogs?

Do you keep track of them using spreadsheets or a piece of software? I'm curious to know how all the updates are handled, and when you know to which blogs you must add more content so that the search engines don't assume the blog has become stagnant.

Your feedback is most welcome.
Thanks
Nick

I use a spreadsheet to keep track of 30 some blogs and all the pages on those blogs. I also keep track of how each page ranks in the same spreadsheet.

I use Market Samurai to keep track of my pages, where they rank, how many links they have, have they risen or fallen in the serps, etc. MOF it tells me everything I want to know and it finds keywords to plus analyzes how tough the competition might be. I couldn't live without it at this point.

You can check it out by clicking the Market Samurai link in my sig. Go check it out. It actually keeps track of my links too and lets me know if they are up or down and I really could just use that info instead of putting it in a spreadsheet. Lol, anything that turns up red, either in links or serp position is something I know I need to work on.

Out of all my blogs I actively get links to 9 of them. Daily. The others rely on people making new posts to let google know they are active. If I find a hot page in the other blogs I will get a few links to it but that's not to often. I prefer to concentrate on the best money makers.

You should always be checking visitor stats and what pages are most popular. Every now and then you find a real good one that ranks high naturaly and just getting it a few links will drive it to the top 3.

You can find Market Samurai at this link in my sig - Best KeyWord Research Tool

Thanks for the reply. I have already purchased Market Samurai. At the moment, I only use it for my rank checking, but am slowly using more of its features.

Do you manually Login to all your blogs to check if you must update WP or any of your Plugins? Why I ask is that I receive messages in Googles Webmaster tool telling me that my WP version is old. Do you also keep track in your spreadsheet of all versions?
Thanks
Nick

I seldom update the blogs with the latest WP update. Same with plugins. If I'm putting up a new blog I'll get the latest and greatest but after it's up and everything is working I don't like to mess with it. Sometimes the updates break things that are working. ;)

If I have the time and a reason for doing it I will upgrade but for the most part I just leave things alone. If it's working well why mess with it?

MS is great for checking rankings but it's even better for finding good keywords and letting you know what links the competition has. I like it much more than using google tools.

It's also good at finding content you can use to write new articles. Not so great at finding things to sell, at least for me.

I started this a long time ago and as a result am terrible at orgnaization.

I keep all my domains in seperate folders for each host I am on. I use roboform to keep track of all my WP blogs.

I do my best to give attention to the most important blogs when possible. I am fortunate that on most of my blogs you guys are keeping them fresh for me.

I try to start out doing the right things so each site gets a good start, but I don't spend a lot of time after that.

I do check stats reasonably often and also my earnings which helps me keep on top of my biggest and best sites.

Thanks Mike. It's good to know that one can make money and be successful online without driving yourself crazy with admin.

I just want to get into the habit of being organized now before it gets out of hand.
Thanks

I wish I were organized better but I will say that part of the secret of success is figuring out what will make you the most money. It's usually not spending time organizing or analyzing or doodling around. It's all about doing the things that bring the largest return.

Somehow I manage to do that pretty well despite being poorly organized! :(

Is that what you are using? What is it like?

Does it only work on cpanel or ALL wordpress blogs?

I have used it, but don't often because I still forget about it!!
The way it works is it gives you a main dashboard in Wordpress with your domains that you add on the left. You click the one you want and it will open a Wordpress within your main log in for that domain. Do what you want, save like normal, then click another domain.

The great thing about it though is that you can update all plugins and all sites from the main console without going into each individually.

Only downside is, for premium plugins, if they are not yet registered with them you will have to manually update them - the main auto update will not work.

This tool also lets you back up to Amazon S3 and Dropbox for all your sites, so it does seem pretty cool.
