Help, why am I not getting traffic?

Postby JeffE » Mon Oct 17, 2011 3:42 pm

My site, howtostopbackpain.us, is ranked 10 on google, and ranked #1 on yahoo and bing for the exact match keyword "how to stop back pain". Despite these rankings I am getting no traffic. Would someone like to view my site and suggest what can be done to improve it?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi,

I checked your site using Market Samurai and found the following rankings:

Google #24
Bing - either not indexed or not found for keyword
Yahoo - same

You are also up against a lot of competition for keywords 'How to Stop Back Pain'.

It may take you awhile to rank on the first page of Google.

Hope this helps...

Best,
Mike

Hi Jeff

You haven't got any basic tags on your page which might indicate to the SE Bots that the on-page optimisation is a little neglected.

Additionally, not having at least a title tag means that there is no relevant text on the browser's title bar (the strip across the top of browsers), nor on the browsers page tab.

I haven't been through your entire page, but it's my guess that if you're lacking some basic on-page SEO, then you'll not be scoring too well with regards to site credibility (in the eyes of a bot).

If you require a little more analysis, just give me a yell and I'll take a closer look for you I think Mike has everything covered in the tutorials though, but should you need a leg-up just let me know and I'll post some page analysis in this thread for you.

Aitch - you nailed it! Look at the title tag!

Code: Select all
<title> </title>

EMPTY is much worse than NO tag - that's what search engines show in the listings! PLUS the TITLE is part of our ranking secret with the links... :o

The global monthly volume is around 390 according to Google Adwords tool.

So how much traffic would you expect from that one page for that keyword?

[how to stop back pain]
390 260 $4.85

If you were number one you'd get a lot of that 390 or maybe even more for that one keyword.

Everything LESS than #1 gets a much smaller piece of the pie.

Anything lower than the 1st 10 and it's doubtful THIS keyword would send you any traffic.

You could be #20 for a BIG keyword of say over 10,000 global and get some good traffic - but for these kind of keywords you really need to be #1 or #2 to get ANY decent traffic.

Also - you have competition doing what we do.

There is another guy with an exact keyword domain .net and he is #16 with a good site

You'll also need to beat him.

I checked and your home page was #25.

I'd say you are LUCKY to be #25 considering your TITLE is empty.

You should fix that right away! Check your theme index.php and make sure it includes code for the BLOG NAME as you added it in WP ADMIN SETTINGS.

And then - just keep linking and building out your site with related keywords.

You'll do fine. 8-)

It will also help if you have a meta description. I checked your main pages and several also have spaces in front of the title. I'd recommend you remove the spaces. They may not hurt but they make your title look funny in the serps.

Put meta descriptions on all of your pages and it will also help
