I've been Indexed Now what do I do?

A place for beginners!

I've been Indexed Now what do I do?

Postby Cindy » Wed Oct 12, 2011 4:51 pm

Spent yesterday learning to do a temp page with html. Checked my site this morning before I started. My site was not indexed so I deleted all my pages and posts in my wp blog so could follow the lesson.

Figured out the hmtl stuff; uploaded it to my hosting account; wrote my articles for the bu announcement blogs. Went and checked my "stripped" blog before I started posting to bu.

Oh, oh... in the time it took me to do all this today my site has been indexed by google.

Not quite sure what to do now...
Should I reconstruct my wp blog and forget about the temp page? Seems like this would be the right step now.

wow... at least I learned how to do the html stuff.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Cindy

Lol, sorry but that sounds like something that happens to me.

Actually not sure what I'd do at this point. Like you my first instinct would be to put the blog back.

What did you name your html page. If you named it index.php, which I'd recommend I'd put the blog back. If you named it with a .html and it's the same as the page you had in the blog I'd put the blog back.

I don't think it really makes much difference at this point. It appears both should work so which ever you are most comfortable with.

Things like this little problem are why it's best to follow the steps.

Glad to hear you got your html straightened out. If you have any more problems with html shoot me an email and I'll help you fix it or explain how to do it.

Thanks, Mastermind! Yup, was quite a day of adventure to say the least. I decided to put my wp stuff back. What the heck. But, my next website I will follow the instruction here to a "t".

I did it with index.html. I did it in Note Pad and then converted it from index.html.txt to index.html. Sheesh. Probably the round about way to do it. But, it worked. Not too bad once I figured it out.

Thanks for your help. My next site I might take you up on your email help. For now I'll just travel on with wp with this one.

By the way- I made my first money on line yesterday- it was $.63 with adsense. Pretty cool.

My general phiolosophy is to always try to take the path of least resistance AND to never do the SAME WORK twice or more than is necessary.

If you've done something just commit to it. You can always try it again next time but there is no reason to ever UNDO what is done - especially if it creates additional work.

I do know it is possible to turn off the blog - or maybe even putting your index.html page would have stopped it from being seen - but my guess is Google already saw it.

Just go with it and do the best you can. It's just a web site. It cost so little that you can mess up and shouldn't feel stress over it. 8-)

It's no big deal any way you go - but since it is indexed you may as well set up the blog now - if you are ready to link to the new pages.

Awesome! :D

Was that from one click?

Only a 100 more clicks a day and you'll be making 63 bucks x 30 = 1,890 a month!

It's funny but I often will say that you can even do MOST THINGS WRONG and still make money doing this! What is really IMPORTANT is that you do it! Even if it is not perfect DOING is better than not doing and you will learn from seeing what works and what doesn't! :P

Cool, the first is always the best feeling. Lol, next best is finally getting a check. After that it's getting a click that's worth more than 10 bucks. ;)

You made the page the okay way. It works and that's what counts. For simple html and php pages there is nothing different except the .html or .php extension. All you needed to do was save it as index.php. Because WP always makes it's home page index.php I like to make my temp page the same. When I create the blog I just copy the visible text from the temp page and paste it in the blog page, I also copy the title and description, and it will still have the link as index.php. But now all the links you got to index.php are still correct. No redirect need from the html page.
