Getting off of email lists

If you are a beginner to internet marketing and you've been looking at different programs before you decided on this one I highly recommend you resign from all the other marketing lists you happen to be on.

Why should you do that? To get rid of all the distractions you don't need. You should realize by now that there are no get rich quick schemes that work. You should also realize that all of the big names who tell you they make millions from marketing have huge email lists and that's where they make there money.

If you are signed up at BU and working the steps you don't need or want all the distractions that keep you from your goals. It's surprising how much time you can waste looking at other money making ideas that don't work or won't work for you.

Get rid of all those emails that are hurting your plan and keeping you from being laser focused on your plan. If you don't put your efforts into building your blog and getting links it's going to take you a lot longer to make the kind of money you want to make.

The only exception to this that I would make would be about email marketing because it's the next logical step to take after you start getting some traffic.

It's good advice to try and focus on doing the things that bring you the greatest return on your efforts - so it is good to spend LESS time with email in general BUT that doesn't mean you should cut yourself off from what is going on and get OFF of email lists.

I have long heard people give advice to opt out of all newsletter and email lists and for me - it's not good advice.

People who are informed and knowledgeable are more likely to succeed. The more you know - the more opportunity there is.

Personally I feel if you are serious about what you do and want to be an expert in your industry you need to absorb everything you can and be aware of as much as possible if it relates to what you do to make a living.

I personally try to get on almost every list I can (if it's in my industry) so I can keep up and be aware of what other people in my industry are doing.

If I get spammed or INSULTED by what someone sends me I will OPT OUT for sure. But even then I learn a valuable lesson and am reminded what NOT to do to people on my lists - so it was worth opting in.

I also use FILTERS in gmail and for the most part only get exposed to important stuff UNLESS I go digging into my folders.

I try to NOT waste too much time reading email UNLESS I am looking for something or want to see what people in my biz are doing.

If you use FILTERS properly you can sign up to as much as you want.

I'm not suggesting you waste time or follow many different peoples advice or training - but I do think you'll be well served by keeping on top of what is going on in marketing and occasionally reading the emails being sent out there - especially if you have web sites that try to sell things.

Now before you try to set me straight - remember I am the guy that brought you the whole over-analysis paralysis discussion over 5 years ago along the phrase information overload and all that stuff.

I still believe that - but - for me - I would rather KNOW what is going on if it relates to my business.

Newsletters are free and often give a great insight to trends in our business.

I suggest you learn to FILTER better rather than OPT OUT

LOL, ya got me. There are some newsletters I get that I'd never resign from.

That wasn't exactly what I was referring to tho. I probably didn't make it clear enough I meant IM marketing lists where they are all touting some great new method to make million yen in 2 seconds flat with a video proving it.

I think newbies benefit more from choosing a plan, like BU, and then sticking to it until they have mastered it. All the get rich qucik stuff does, to me, is provide distractions and dilute the focus that should be on learning the system you chose.

After you've mastered your chosen money making system then go looking at other ways you can enhance your income.

Those guys all have lists I could never resign from because the uality of the information is so high. Nor do they send me 5 emails a day touting new motheods to get rich.

Focus on what you are dong until you've mastered it and I believe you'll make more money.

Appreciate both of your great advices here.
In fact, I came up with my own little filter, and that is to opt out real fast whenever i see anyone emails me and promotes anything with all the typical CB sales copy phrases like 'push-button' 'Done-for-you' 'i hate gurus, it's payback time'..etc.

I actually do that too - unless I need to follow that guru.

But I hate it when someone sends me that awful in your face get rich quick vague email that has no explanation other than scarcity or curiosity motive to click.

Those guys don't deserve to be followed.

Speaking of email lists, has anyone noticed that the big Gurus prices seem to be coming down? You don't often see those $995 launches anymore.
Some of these aforementioned have even gotten out of IM altogether and are now huddled in the "work from home" niche.
Sign of the times? Or are their lists just becoming less gullible?
