Discovery Process- Root vs Pages

hello! In the Step 1 Discovery Process video (towards the end) there is a discussion of how to look at current websites and evaluate whether they would be easy to outrank.
Q: When we are looking at these different websites- what exactly is the difference between a root domain vs pages or other formats and what should we be looking for? Thanks!

Root domain is same as domain home page versus an "inside page"

Usually it's harder to beat a root home page because they often have many more links than inside pages. It can be done but takes longer and requires more links usually.

Of course - if you have all of the keywords in your domain and they don't you have a better chance of beating even a root domain.
