Jon is a friend One of the reasons BU is o valuable is because we are very fortunate that our blogs get crawled like crazy and as you guys tell me all the time - the blog posts get indexed fast - sometimes within hours

Now - the other reason to backlink your backlinks is to add JUICE to those links. While we may NOT need links to help us get our posts crawled - it will add extra power if our links are coming from pages that have backlinks pointing at them too

Now - all that said - the "member contributed" blogs are not necessarily crawled as often or have as much going for them. Although there are some gems in there with high PR and a lotof activity - so don't let that put you off on those - just be aware that in general the in hose blogs have more clout and will get indexed faster

I've noticed that even PR 0 blogs, if they are getting posts everyday, will get crawled several times per day and if they get lots of posts per day they get crawled even more often. A PR 5 blog that only gets 1 post per day may not get crawled as often as a PR 0 blog with 10 posts per day.

IMO hasing PR is a waste of time as it doesn't mean much in the serps. Unfortunately I still want all of my blogs to have high PR. Obviously I've been brain washed when I want something I know doesn't matter all that much. Ego thing I guess.

One reason the in house blogs are so powerful is that you guys are posting in them like crazy and posting GOOD content!

So we're keeping them fresh and Google knows it's not autoblogged crap :'>

Most days we have over 1,000 new posts hitting the blogs and the majority of action is in the in house blogs.

Webmasters really should post more in the user submitted blogs. MOF I'm kinda disappointed that they don't.

The more IP addresses you have posted to the better google likes it. While I post in the in house blogs I also post a lot in the submited blogs because I know google does check to see where your links are coming from. It's better to post a link in an in house blog and then make the next post in a submitted blog for that reason. The more different IP addresses coming into your site the more you will rise in the serp.

People tend to want to post in the same blog all the time and that's not good for their blogs. Sure, it's easy because they are fmiliar with that blog but I can beat someone who makes 10 posts to the same blog just by making four posts to different blogs. IP diversity counts way more than most people think it does.

Even posting the same url to a blog doesn't help a lot unless it's been at least 4-6 months since the previous post was made. If webmasters don't post in all blogs it hurts them.

Lol, I've probably posted in 90% of the available blogs and as long as the blogs are indexed by google I don't worry to much about it. If everyone posted in all possible blogs the network would be much more robust and it would help us all in the long run.

To add to my precious post on this topic.

If you are worried about the trustworthiness of the user blogs ou are posting to do what I do. Whenever I setup a new blog and start making posts to it I like to post in the latest blogs that were added to the BPU as it makes it easy to track what's happening with them.

First I watch for the site to get indexed and then I check for which blogs are showing up in yahoo's back link checker. If after a week some of the user blogs aren't showing up with links to my blogs I go check them out more carefully.

First I look for my post. If it's there I check that the links go where they are supposed to. Then I do a view source to make sure the links are being followed and they aren't using a javascript or cgi redirect. Don't rely on the Firefox plugin that supposedly shows links that are nofollowed as I've seen it get that wrong. Always view the source. If the webmaster is doing something so you can't view source save the page to yur HD and open it with your html program like dreamweaver or whatever you use.

I created 5 new blogs early last week and submitted them to 9 different blogs in the correct categories. Surprisingly 4 of the blogs I posted to didn't show up in the yahoo links checker. When I checked them I created a ticket for support and reported 3 of them as possible cheaters.

If everyone did that we would have a very clean blog base in which to post and there would be no cheating blogs at all.

You should be posting in user blogs as much as in the inhouse blogs. However I follow a policy of trust but verify. It's a good idea for everyone to follow that policy so we can get rid of the cheaters and make the place better for all of us who don't cheat.

I don't know if Mike has someone who checks blogs for following the rules but I hope so as new blogs need to be checked after a week or so to make sure they haven't changed to a cheating mode after their blogs were accepted.

What you said is absolutely spot on! Spread the love! We have a wide pool of IP's with sites all over the globe! Sure - the member contributed blogs aren't all award winners - but the links will count and add diversity

Blogs are tested hourly for a number of things we can check on.

If they fail they are put on the side and we'll keep on retrying until they get fixed and then they are added back.

At the time the user contributed blogs are added they are tested and verified as being "worth adding" from a functional standpoint and from a link value point of view. Are links posting correctly etc.

I almost always will catch when they are "cheating" but some people are adding plugins to do no follow and such so it really helps when you guys send support tickets telling me if anything is shady (same with spammy off topic stuff).

I just sent 3 warnings to contributing members because I was alerted to sneaky nofollows and such. Usually they will fix the linking problem.

Now - this rarely does happen - hardly ever - because most of our members know why we do what we do. Linking is important.

But a few members are taking courses or advice from sleazy forums and other seo guys who are teaching to NOT LINK OUT or use plugins to add nofollow or javacript or rediirect the links etc.

Some people are just misunderstanding that affiliate links should be cloaked and they are cloaking ALL links by mistake.

Most people willo correct this when I let them know - so it usually is resolved.

If the problem is not resplved I will remove the blogs from the newtrok

So be assured - if the blog is listed - it works - and links will pass juice - BUT I actually apprciaite that some of you guys are VERIFYING because that's how we catch these cheaters (also catch spammy posts!).

99.9% of the BUmembers are smart people who dig what we do - there is however a small number of people who are in this for the wrong reasons. we usually catch them pretty quick - so don't worry about this!

I look out for stuff - and MasterMind and others are helping too to keep the value high!

Sheesh, I really consider it foolish if I and others don't post in the user blogs. The people who signed up can't be fools because they signed up to the easiest quality linking program there is. That leaves fear.

Somewhere along the way I've gotten 25 or so blogs in the BPU. I've also made over 2200 posts. Of that total for blogs I may have actually deleted 10 or 12 off topic posts in a year. Of the total blog posts I've made maybe 1% of the posts were to bad blogs. The diversity of the links, the fact they come from worldwide, is probably accountable for about 35% of my rise in the serps. I believe people totally underestimate the power of the wroldwide diverseness of the links and what it means to google.

Links are the key to ranking well and the more diverse the links the better google likes it. The better google likes it the hihger the pages rise in the serps. The higher the pages rise in the serps the more money that can be made. Worldwide diversity of IP addresses makes sites rise faster. Faster is more money quicker.

The object is to make money and there is more money to be made by posting in the user blogs too then it's foolish not to post in them. That's why I post in them and the return is more than worth the less than 1% of posts that might not be followed.

Reality its its a HIGH return LOW risk money maker.
